Today the children had a go at colouring in a house when they arrived in the classroom - later these were used as cutting frames to help them challenge their cutting of straight lines. (the children have proudly stuck these in their Understanding the world books)
In phonics they were introduced to the 'a' sound. They learnt the poem - around the apple and down the leave to help them rememebr the formation - though out the day they showed us they they remembered how to hold a pencil and sit properly at a table to write their sounds.
In Maths table jobs we explored how coloured shapes could be sorted by either shape or by colour.
Our other table had lots of different parts of houses and the children were challenged to see if they could cut and paste them to make a house - we had some lovely examples of beautiful homes.
This afternoon the children met our Teacher Mr Alan as Mrs Smith had to pop to another school on an important course. Mr Alan read the book Sharing a shell and during the afternoon the children talked about their own homes and helped to decorate a paper cup with patterns to represent the one from the story which became home to 'blob'.
